thanks we watched it FLY off the back of a truck on a back road, gave it some time, went back a couple hours later to see if they came back for it and they didn't. always wanted one but never wanted to drop so much for a cooler because we don't ever need one that often. 10/10 find, wanna restore

For whatever reason Yeti hard coolers hold grime in very well. I once scratched the lid of my blue tundra by throwing a rusty pipe in the bed of my truck. 7 years later, after idk how many cleanings, I've still got the rust-colored blemishes on the lid.

I would just disinfect the inside and seals real good and start slapping stickers on the outside to cover road rash! Your cooler is bound to collect more battle wounds from usage anyways so just send it.

stickers are a really good idea. can I bleach the inside to disinfect? gonna get new latches and seals so not too worried, gonna soak the non-broken latch and current seal in bleach if I can and scrub with hot water

Try making a paste out of oxyclean and water. Wipe it on a small section of the cooler and let it sit for about 30-60 mins. Then give it a good spray with a hose and it should clean up a bit.

I will try that! Thank you. It won't discolor the plastic, will it?

Use barkeepers friend as a paste to clean the stuff that the magic eraser won't get to. Works great. Otherwise - stickers.

If I'm being honest you should be okay with light sanding to get most scratches and grooves out, the plastic is fairly thick. Start with a corse grit and then work your way higher until you get a nice uniform finish.

never sanded before in my life but I just might give it a try. have you done it before? how did it go?

All purpose cleaner, some form of degreaser maybe magic eraser

Don't restore it. IMO every scratch, dong, smudge all tells the story of the cooler. And it's not everyday someone can say that their cooler literally "fell off the back of a truck"

Also just out of personal curiosity: how much would it be worth if I wanted to sell it on like Facebook Marketplace and upgrade? (I know probably not much cuz it's been through h-e double hockey sticks but I just kinda wanna know)

$150 new as it is discontinued and now on clearance at most places, so $40-50 tops IMO. It's pretty mangled new straps and plug or not.

Just keep it.
